A day of contemplation in the Vall de Gallinera and the Vall de Alcalá

This proposal, which combines historical reading and a serene walk, is an invitation to discover the everyday echoes of the Morisco communities that found refuge in the mountains of the Vall de Gallinera and the Vall de Alcalá.

Among age-old rocks and cherry trees in blossom, we will walk through a landscape where memory is not displayed: it is revealed. We will speak of resistance, of resilience and of dignity. We will walk listening to the paths of the water, the song of the birds and the clean breeze that crosses one of the most beautiful and least altered settings in the province of Alicante.

A genuine historical field where the territory is a document and silence is narrative.

Itinerary of the experience:

We will begin in Benialí at 10:00, where we will explore its Andalusi foundation and the still perceptible traces of its historical layout.

From there we will take Carrer Trinquet to begin a walk of approximately 3 km (around 45 minutes) to Benirrama, crossing the cherry blossom, one of the most delicate natural spectacles of the inland Mediterranean.

Halfway we will stop at the Morisco deserted village of l’Alcúdia, a silent site that will help us understand the complexity of internal exile and the survival strategies of these communities.

In Benirrama we will visit the old washhouses and the square of the Church of San Cristóbal, witnesses to a superimposition of times and cultures. We will then return to Benialí.

Gastronomic break

Lunch at your own expense in Benialí.

We recommend the restaurant Nou Tarrasò, whose culinary approach converses with the territory and the seasons (online booking available).

In the afternoon we will travel by our own vehicles to Alcalá de la Jovada (approx. 25 minutes).

At 16:30 we will visit this site, traditionally associated with the birth of the vizier al-Azraq el Blau, a key figure in the history of the territory. From there we will walk about 11 minutes to the impressive Morisco deserted village of Adzuvieta, one of the best preserved complexes in the eastern Iberian Peninsula.

The route will end at around 18:00–18:30, after a day where landscape, history and sensibility intertwine naturally.

This is not a simple hiking route.

It is a reading of the territory in blossom.

An experience where walking becomes understanding.

Note*: if the visit cannot take place because of adverse weather conditions, an alternative date will be proposed, with no refund of the amount paid.
